Subject: unsealed aluminum leaf

I just finished leafing 3 ceilings with your aluminum leaf patent rolls. The client had me apply the leaf in slightly staggered and broken patterns, not filling in the holidays to look a little more 'organic' and worn. She would like to leave it unsealed as she is hoping it will soften/tarnish and become less shiney...if I leave it unsealed, what can I expect from tarnishing aluminum leaf and how long does it take?
