Subject: antiquing

For a school project I need to paint a bookshelf that is made of unfinished pine wood.
If I want to give the finished piece an antiqued look, I need to decide what antiquing technique to use. The look I would like to achieve will let a greyish another color shine through lightly.
What technique will bring out this result? The bookcase has a roof and is a country style piece of furniture, intended for a kid'a room.
