Subject: plaster over painted orange peel textured walls

I have orange peel textured walls. I have tried colorwashing and it looks horrible because the glaze brings out the bumps in the orange peel.
Is it possible to smooth them somewhat by using Venetian plaster over the walls? I want a moroccan or mediterranean style.
