A nice look for paneling, and easy to do, is to create a simple stripped pattern. Choose two colors that work together, similar in tone and value (lightness or darkness). Paint each stripe in the opposite color. If you are willing to go further, try the rag rolled effect, instructions on this site. Simply add a little white to each color, lightening up the color, then ‘rag’ over each stripe with it’s base color’s lighter version. You may need to use painters tape to isolate each stripe. The finished effect is soft, lightly textured and a lot of visual depth and energy on your walls. You can rag roll both stripes with the lighter colors, or just do one stripe. In any case, you would start off by ragging all the stripes of one color, then step back and look at the paneling. If you like it, leave it. If you want to do more, go for it. As an alternative to rag rolling you could also try the ‘dragging’ technique. Hope this is helpful!
