You can tone it down by applying another color wash over the walls. Try a pale tan or cream tone, and keep the glaze thin. Mix a latex, eggshell paint, in a pale tan tone, with water and glaze coat or Floetrol. You’ll just need a small amount of paint and glaze and lots of water. Just a veil of color should work fine to lighten it, though you will want to test out on a corner or below a window. To see how light you want it. When making a glaze used for lightening a tone you need to have some white paint mixed in, so the glaze has a tendency to ‘opaque’ the wall a little. Similar to applying a white wash. But this looks great; even creates a sort of hide look, like soft leather or creamy parchment. Work section by section, just be sure to soften the edges outward first, floating the color onto the wall so you minimize burn lines (or lap marks). Good Luck!
