The latex eggshell in your glaze is causing the glaze to set up to quickly. Try creating a glaze without any paint in it. Mix ‘Glaze coat’ with artist paint colors (in tubes) with water. Add some Floetrol to help it along if you want. Get the wall very wet and have a friend help if necessary. If you are having problems then make your glaze more fluid. You may have to boost the color to make it darker. A very fluid glaze may ‘sag’ for a while after you start raking (or dragging), just cover the wall with glaze and drag in an upward and downward motion. Then let it set for a few moments, and go up and down again. Continue until you like the up and down look of the lines. Every time you go over the wall it will get a bit lighter, that is why we suggest you start with a darker or strongly pigmented glaze, and keep it very fluid. Once you achieve a nice line movement it is time to go left/right. Once the glaze is almost set, use a steady hand and drag your brush or comb evenly left and right to complete the look. Experiment on a small section to get a feel for working a fluid glaze, then wipe clean and start the whole wall.
