I have an oak book case that is varnished a honey color but the shelves are still bare except the fascia. I'd like to varnish it a cherry color, can I go directly over the color already on there if I sand it so that it would take? Please let me know. Thanks, Cherie' |

I'm trying to recreate the finish of an antique chinese lacquer cabinet on oak kitchen cabinets that are currently stained and polyurethaned. My goal is to completely hide the grain with rich and uniform color with significant depth and a satin to semi-gloss finish. While glazing would give it the desired depth, I'm concerned with uniformity of color (I don't want a soft effect). Advice would be greatly appreciated. |

I am planning to paint a mural that will also serve as a "headboard" (virtual) for a bed. Is a water-based varnish sufficient protection, and is it safe to lean up against, place pillows against, etc.? I don't think the wear and tear will be enormous, but it *is* supposed to be a "headboard." |

I'm trying to find or create a dark coffee glaze to match the existing glaze on our kitchen cabinets. Any suggestions? |

I want to revamp my varnished pine bedroom funiture with minimum effort! It was a pale pine but has aged and become an unpleasant orangy yellow. I have lightly sanded and tried several coats of quick dry varnish in a dark rosewood but the result is still quite orange - is there anything with a violet tint that i can add to the varnish to tone down this orange? |

I had used imatation gold leaf on some colums and did not seal them then about 3 weeks later I came back to do some touch up (re leafing some of the lower half where they had been damaged, i.e. mared up.) after releafing the bottom of the colums I sealed the columns compleatly from top to bottom with a satin spray finish. The problem I have with this project is is that the lower half of the columns where the newer leafing was done over ...... read more |

My wife painted our basement a color with a very very slight olive green hue. By itself the green hue is unnoticeable, but, when next to certain colors, it becomes more noticeable. What neutral color carpet will make the green less noticeable? |
