Hi. I just completed my first decorative finish project and I have one area that doesn't look right. This is a small bathroom so I felt confident I could work on it a section-at-a-time quite easily. I completed all the walls with a latex glaze mixed with latex paint over a sem-gloss base coat (which is what the glaze mfr suggested). Two of the walls meet in an outwardly facing, rounded corner. At the overlap point, which is on the f...... read more |

I designed a logo for a company and now they want me to paint it 9' tall on an old, interior brick wall. The wall has recently been sprayed with a water-based clear coat sealer. The wall is rough and has absorbed much of the sealer and is not slick. Is this a good base to paint the design on, or should the brick be sanded first? |

I am trying to create a linen weave. I apply a mixture of latex eggshell and glaze over a white semi-gloss base coat. Then I rake with a brush horizontally and vertically. The glaze dries too quickly. I want to cover a 8 by 8 foot wall because if I do sections, I get lap marks. A wet edge technique didn't work. Any suggestions? |

For a school project I need to paint a bookshelf that is made of unfinished pine wood. If I want to give the finished piece an antiqued look, I need to decide what antiquing technique to use. The look I would like to achieve will let a greyish another color shine through lightly. What technique will bring out this result? The bookcase has a roof and is a country style piece of furniture, intended for a kid'a room. Thank you for yo...... read more |

I need some advice on how to paint my new "beadboard" paneling. I want an old fashioned look and I'm thinking of the weathered look shown on this site. Not too rustic -- sort of "well-kept old". I think I want a dark color with a white/off-white on top. It should be easy to get dark color into the recesses in the bead board and if I dry brush the lighter color I should be able to keep that color out of the recesses. ...... read more |

I took a class a couple of years ago, at a Lettering Conference. The teacher had some sheets/rolls of some type of foil/metal that you could put face down on a lettering project that had some sizing or paint on it and the foil or leafing would come off only on those "primed" or "tacky" areas. It wasn't typical leafing...it was more an heat activated foil sheet. If you have an idea of what this is called and w...... read more |

Could you please tell me, does Benjamin Moore's Navajo White or Linen White have yellow undertones? Presently I have BM Colonial Cream on my walls, and although beautiful, it is far too yellow for what I want to achieve which is warmth but not yellow; is that an oxymoron? When I achieve the most mellow of a cream base, the texturized walls will colorwashed in a "whisper" of something-don't know yet. Best regards to all of you ...... read more |
