Hand-painted Delft tiles

The loose un-even quality of this faux technique makes painted Delft tiles an ideal decorative effect for the beginner or inexperienced do-it-yourselfer.

Irregular lines and hand painted renderings add character and old world charm, easily achieved without any prior painting experience.

 Essential mural tips and techniques

Using glazes in creating murals.
What are some of the advantages.

Many murals require the use of glazes. In this manner you can ‘color wash’ thinned glaze over another image. This is particularly effective when a slight color change is required, or when one antiques a mural.

The glazing process alters the mural by changing the overall color. Antiquing the mural is an example. When using acrylic paints to antique a mural, or adjust the color, create a diluted mixture of colorant (artist acrylics), glaze medium (such as ‘Glaze Coat’ or ‘acrylic matt medium’), and water. Thinned to the right consistency, glaze is created.. The glaze can be applied in washes, similar to watercolors. Slowly build up color until you are satisfied. You have now ‘color washed’ your glaze onto the mural, altering the color, or creating an antique appearance.
