Making perfect ovals and circles

Create perfect ovals, and circles for any project. This process works for furniture and objects, as well creating large ceiling and floor templates.

The concept: To create a symmetrical oval or circle by making a template. A piece of paper, the size of your oval or circle, is folded into quarters. An arch is made with a pencil, then cut out. Once paper is unfolded, a symmetrical template for your desired shape is created.

Step 1: Get a general idea of size and placement. Determine the height and width of your shape and mark these positions lightly with your pencil. Use a tape measure and find your center point.

Step 2: Use paper that is large enough to cover full size of desired shape being created. It is OK to tape pieces of paper together to make a large enough template.

Measure from the center point along one edge to the proper distance. This will be your height. Measure along the other edge, this will be your width.

Step 3: Use your pencil to sketch out your curve. You can also arch a piece of cardboard from one point to the other and draw along the bent edge.

Step 4: Take your scissors and cut along the line you have just created. Once unfolded you will have a symmetrical oval or circle.

Step 5: Place in proper location and tape a few edges down. Use your pencil to trace around the template you have created.
